Montgomery County or USACE? Who is Responsible?

How many times have we heard the excuse that the County Commissioners can not tackle a problem without USACE being involved?

Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley asked if the Army Corps of Engineers could help with cleaning out large trees from several major creeks in the county including Lake Creek and Stewarts Creek that are now acting like dams and keeping water from running off.

“It’s going to get out of hand,” he said. “The Corps is the one that has to do that, we can’t.”

According to the official map from Army Corp, they have no jurisdiction over any projects in Montgomery County.  What is going on?  Does Montgomery County not have a good enough working relationship with USACE to be aware of this situation? Here is the link to the Army Corp’s purview.

Below is a map of the USACE projects.
